iTunes just wasted 3 hours of my life and I literally just threw my iPhone across my desk

An Open Letter to Tim Cook

I’ve got a lot of music in iTunes. Maybe 500 albums. For the past 3 hours, I’ve been picking out every song that I think might be good on a workout mix and throwing them into a playlist. I stayed up late doing this because I’m in training for the upcoming triathlon season and I need to stop listening to the same exact 40 songs I’ve been listening to for the past year. I figured I’d create a “master” playlist with all the good workout music, and pick from there.

I checked my work at one point about 2 hours ago, I know I had at least 100 songs in there. I’ve just looked at the playlist now. It had 4 songs in it. I cursed profusely and threw my phone at the desk.

I’m through with iTunes. It’s a crazy bloated pile of garbage that just did me wrong. Those are three hours of my life I will never get back. I’m up later than I should be, but it was ok — I was accomplishing something. Now I’m up late and I’ve wasted my time.

My iPod used to make me feel great (all three of them). iTunes was a critical part of that. I’ve been using it since version 1, and I used to love it. Music is a huge part of why I’ve stuck with the iPhone platform as interesting competitors finally started to make reasonable products over the past few years.

Now iTunes makes me furious, and can’t trust it anymore. I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do, but I’ll tell you one thing — right now, for the first time since 1983 (when I was using an Apple ][gs), I’m not a satisfied Apple customer.
